Automotive News

CHICAGO - With his long-awaited return here, the Dodge Challenger was the undisputed king of the 2008 edition of the Auto Show in Chicago. But it was the trucks which formed the bulk of major shows, with automakers introducing an impressive combination of machines-sipping fuel, the tensile loading hybrid pickups to above, over the road tractor .

And that stands in stark contrast with the heavy fuel-buzz that the economy has dominated the past few shows green was almost all you could see Frankfurt, Los Angeles and Detroit. With so many heavy debut on the effectiveness throughout the world over the past two years, major manufacturers have decided we need a break from all their prognosticating on our alt-fuel future? Maybe.

The producers of the Windy City certainly saved the largest recent in its infancy: The LoneStar big truck, a truck that resembled the Tasmanian Devil record of steel, was one of the smash hits of the show. Its creators are local Navistar Chicago, and perhaps peppered cheers of the crowd with employees, but the cheers from the media were equally strong. Hey, reducers tend to dig a little bit of everything with wheels, even if it happens to have 10 of them and weigh nearly 35000 pounds.

In news truck, Ford blew everybody in the Lake Michigan trifecta with his truck. More importantly, at least for us, it was their new suite of solutions for the work of F-Series pickup, with options ranging from a laptop aboard the Sprint with network connectivity and a printer option, navigation with the monitoring of vehicles, as a tool for inventory control and the bed Security content and tools whew. This kind of practice, innovation techno-savvy we really appreciate these days, and we can not wait to try some of these digital devices ASAP.

Ford has also opened a new category of small businesses delivery vehicles working with Transit Connect box before driving the truck. It is smaller than most of the work and trucks that might be the most characteristic, although he will probably get better fuel economy than any other delivery vehicle, too. The new Edge Sports tricked-8 pieces with a body kit, 22-in. The wheels and tires and a slick inside-package was cool, but it was overshadowed by Ford trucks bigger job news.

Trucks, however, are of all varieties. Porsche Cayenne and the GTS, which had its North American debut this week, can certainly not be seen as a "work" truck. Therefore, unless your definition of "work" is the word racetrack in front of it. In fact, Porsche GTS is hailing as "the best treatment of SUVs on the road in the world." And with giant 21-in. Wheels and air suspension fully computerized, which we enforce? This is d a Porsche, after all. The best thing about the GTS is that the 400-hp 4.8-litre V8 is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

After years of the motorcycle, quad and small businesses SUV, Suzuki finally a van. They went on low-risk, low-cost way badging by the current Nissan Frontier pickup truck as a new equator. Yet those bones to begin with, and Ecuador, should be good for Suzuki.

In other platform for sharing information, Volkswagen took the traditional minivan American business by creating an alliance with Chrysler LLC, which will build a very un-VW-like clone of the Dodge Caravan. The VW minibus Routan actually looks pretty good in person, and it can make people forget the American public, rather unsuccessful Eurovan that preceded it. However, we would have preferred a hip, retro-German built Microbus on our roads rather than another conventional minivan.

General Motors has revealed four new trucks, including the Chevrolet Traverse, the last GM crossover to be built on the platform shared by the Lambda Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. The Traverse's front end looks very Malibu-esque to us. And judging by the success and accolades of this vehicle, sharing a look might not be a bad idea. The General has been following with the pick-up GMC Sierra hybrid, the Hummer H3T pickup and GMC Denali XT bodacious Concept unibody truck. We particularly dug the latter concept, and it could one day join the Honda Ridgeline, Ford Explorer SUV Concept America, and Toyota BAT-A Concept monocoque truck at the club. The ultra-light-duty truck is a trend, we are likely to see in future showrooms shortly.

Of course, Chicago is not all trucks this year. We were particularly enamoured of the new Dodge Challenger muscle car SRT8-just like the rest of the world passion for the automobile. But, for the simple suspense car, the only thing here this week that the Challenger was nearly a million dollars, is not given, you have an even-if-you-want-a race car BMW M3 Rahal Letterman Racing that Fera campaign later this year in the American Le Mans Series Absolutely beautiful from every angle and ready to go out and mix it with the players established GT2, the M3 is hot stuff. Can we lead just once before you race, Mr. Rahal? Please? -- Jim McCraw
